engineering side- how it is installed and operated. In 2017 we
started the packaging and proper R&D phase. The last step was
all about field testing and proving that the equipment is ready
for the market. Now, we have two compressor models powered
by the Volvo Penta 8 and 13 liter engines available in the market.
Though the official launch was during EXCON, the customers
were aware of the new development and soft launches were
carried out earlier. However, with the official launch it will be a
good year looking ahead.
How will the new emission norms change the dynamics in the
coming months?
As far as the Volvo Group is concerned, we are in linewith the
government environmental decisions and agree that India
requires stricter emission regulations in order to have cleaner air
across India. The off road BS-IV norms are new to India but not
new for the engine manufacturers. Hence, I don’t see any reason
for delaying the implementation of the norms. The manufacturers
in India are very sophisticated and have the capability and know-
how required for the new BS CEV IV engine implementation.
Products and machines will be having more components and
electronic machine control that comes with a price tag. However,
these new products are coming up with benefits in terms of fuel
consumption, efficiency and productivity with reduced operating
costs. From a general point of view the government is taking the
right steps to cut down the emission and provide the people
with cleaner air.
Do you think this is the way forward when OEM’s collaborate with
the major component suppliers?
In general, that is the way of working though it is not always
communicated. In the past, it was easier to replace an engine.
However, with the new emission norms other certifications
coming up, many components are coming from the engine segment. On the marine business side, we will launch a new

That is in line with our view and our offering in India. Therefore,
