d&a Crown icon Hong Kong based architecture frm Dennis Lau and Ng Chun Man Architecture & Engineers, better known as DLN, has unveiled plans for Nanning Logan Century, a 383-metre mixed development tower in the Chinese city of Nanning. Te 396,490 square metre structure for the Logan Property Group incorporates grade A ofces, a fve star hotel and a high-end shopping mall, and will become the tallest building in Guangxi province, and one of the biggest skyscrapers in China. At 383 metres, the building will be one metre taller than Jinmao Tower in Shanghai which was China’s tallest before it was surpassed by the 492 metre-tall Shanghai World Financial Centre in 2008.DLN has applied a postmodern architectural style in the design of Nanning Logan Century. Te 82 foor tower, which has been underway since 2013, is scheduled for completion in 2017 and incorporates a 2,000 square metre business skypark, an outdoor podium and green space to provide relaxation for corporate executives. Te design also integrates the city’s highest sight-seeing platform at the top with elevators that can accelerate up to 6m/second, empowering every visitor to witness the stunning skyline of Nanning. Nanning’s location close to Hong Kong and Macau and its close proximity to Vietnam makes it one of the key commercial and communication centres connecting China with Southeast Asia. Slender channel Zaha Hadid Architects, along with Leonhardt, Andrä & Partner and Sinotech Engineering Consultants, have won an international competition to design the new cable stayed Danjiang Bridge in the Taiwanese capital, Taipei. Te Danjiang Bridge, located at the mouth of the Tamsui River will be the world’s longest single-tower, asymmetric cable-stayed bridge. Te bridge design minimises its visual impact by using only one concrete structural mast to support the 920m road, rail and pedestrian deck made from steel. It is reported the mast is designed and engineered to be as slender as possible and positioned to ofer the best structural performance, avoid impeding the navigability of the river and also minimise any interference with the views of the sunset across Taiwan Strait from popular viewing points, both for locals and tourists, along the river. Tis single-mast design also dramatically subtracts on the employment of structural elements in the riverbed in accordance with the increased protection programs of the estuary’s ecosystems. From a transportation infrastructure perspective the Danjiang Bridge will be integral to the development of the northern Taiwan increasing connectivity between neighbourhoods and reducing through-trafc on local roads within local town centres. It will also allow for the extension of Danhai Light Rail Transportation (DHLRT) system over the Tamsui River to connect the town of Bali and the port and harbor areas with Taipei’s public rail network. 32 construction opportunities|sEPTEMBER 2015
