World leaders now in India

The Netherlands based Alliance Tire Group recently launched OTR tires specifically built to suit Indian conditions and market prospects. NAGESH BASAVANHALLI, GROUP PRESIDENT- EMERGING MARKETS, ATG offered VEENA KURUP his views on Excon as a fruitful business platform for his company among other things.

On Excon as a business platform:

Excon as a platform has delivered us direct access to our clients in the construction and mining equipment industry. It is a vibrant platform to meet clients, expand customer reach and strengthen market presence. We are a recent entrant to India’s off-highway tire segment and look forth to strengthen our operations here. Through Excon we have been able to showcase before our customers ATG’s unique purpose-built tires for the construction industry. We have achieved extremely positive response at Excon. The platform has definitely supported us in strengthening our market presence in India.

On ATG’s contribution to the off -highway tires business over the last 15 years:

Our journey started in 2007 when the Mahansaria family with support of Warburg Pincus acquired the Alliance Tire Company of Israel (ATG). Today ATG is a leading name in the global off-highway tires business. The group owns three renowned brands – Alliance, Galaxy and Primex. The brands are well-known for their ability to provide customers, both aftermarket and OEMs, with application-specific, purpose-built tires. From fields to mines to factories to forests, ATG offers solutions for various needs, like agricultural, forestry, industrial and OTR tires. In a short span of time,. today we are a team of 5,000 members with a presence in six continents.

On the existing manufacturing facilities: We have our manufacturing facilities in Israel and India. A recent addition to our manufacturing units is at Dahej, Gujarat. The unit which was launched in the start of 2015 has a production capacity of 57,000 TPA. Our other unit in India is located at Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. The unit commenced its operations in 2009 and has a capacity of 100,000 TPA. This is one of the largest OHT factories in the world. Both these units cater to the domestic as well as export markets. Our Israel unit commenced operations in 1950 and has a capacity of 42,000 TPA. The unit focuses on the production of high-end technology tires. Apart from these, we also have our contract manufacturing facilities in China and Taiwan. The Group also has world-class R&D centres in Israel, the US and India.

On the market for off-highway tires and future outlook:

India, despite economic volatilities globally, has remained on a positive side. The situation in emerging markets like India is gradually improving. The year 2015 in particular has been very exciting for ATG’s operations. The latest feather in our cap is the Integrated Management Systems certification received from TUV Rheinland, Germany, for our new manufacturing unit in Dahej. We aim to be one of the top three global market leaders in agricultural, forestry and construction tire segments and to build a strong presence in the niche earthmoving tire sectors like ports and underground mining. Our ambition is to double our volumes globally by the year 2020.
