CREDAI –NSDC SCHOOL FOR CONSTRUCTION

The NCR wing of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India (CREDAI), in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation, is planning to launch a training institute near Noida to train and provide growth opportunities to construction workers. The training institute to be launched in September derives from the existence of an institute in Pune which was launched by CREDAI’s unit in that city. The NCR branch will address the need for shortage of trained workers on construction sites which has led to a delay in projects.  

 

WB SANITATION PROJECT FOR PUNJAB

A World Bank funded sanitation project worth Rs.2,200 crore has been launched in the state of Punjab. The objective of the scheme known as Punjab Rural Water and Sanitation Sector Improvement Project is to improve water and sanitation services. It aims to provide a toilet and water connection in all households within the next three years (FY15-18). Additionally, through the project, the state government also aims to augment the existing rural water supply schemes to provide 70 litres per capita per day (LPCD) against the current consumption of 40 LPCD.

 

HENKEL’S 10TH INDIA UNIT

Henkel Adhesive Technologies India, an arm of the German major Henkel, plans to invest €30 million to set up a new adhesives unit near Pune in Maharashtra. The facility on completion will be the company’s tenth such unit in India. The unit is expected to have an installed capacity of 80,000 tonne of adhesives and surface treatments and is being developed on 20,000 sq m area. The unit will manufacture adhesives for use especially in industrial, packaging, consumer goods and automotive metal segments. The facility is expected to be fully operational by 2017.

 

TATA VALUE HOMES AT BOISAR

Extending its line of affordable housing projects, Tata Value Homes has launched a new initiative at Boisar, an upcoming commercial and residential suburb near Mumbai. The project under the brand New Haven is a spacious complex offering 1-2.5 BHK residences at a starting price of Rs.17.1 lakh. The exclusive apartments will be centred on the Tata Value Homes’ philosophy of creating a positive ecosystem and providing a sense of place and community life. Apart from being surrounded with lush greenery, the project is also equipped with jogging tracks, recreational areas, gymnasium, club-house, swimming pool and other such modern amenities.

 

IREF INVESTS IN VATIKA INDIA NEXT

Indiabulls Real Estate Fund (IREF) has invested Rs.100 crore in a Gurgaon housing project of the Vatika Group. The fund, which will primarily do debt transactions, has subscribed to fully-secured, listed non-convertible debentures (NCD) issued by a subsidiary of Vatika Ltd. The capital has been raised to support the project which is a part of the realty firm’s ongoing 700 acre township project called as Vatika India Next. IREF is a real estate focused fund scheme managed by Indiabulls Asset Management Co Ltd.

 

SOBHA ELANZA LAUNCHED

Bengaluru based realty major Sobha Ltd has unveiled its new super luxury residential project in Pune. The project named Sobha Elanza is spread across a four acre campus on Paud Road, near Kothrud. The project comprises two towers of 21 and 19 storeys respectively. The project offers three and four BHK apartments, duplexes and penthouses. The size of the total 184 residential units range from 1,755 sq ft to 3,712 sq ft and boasts an aesthetically designed grand lobby. It is reported the apartments cost is in the range of Rs.1.99 crore to Rs.4.5 crore.

 

CHINESE INVESTORS FOR INDIAN REALTY

Chinese realty major Dalian Wanda Group plans to invest $10 billion in India over the next 10 years to construct industrial townships and retail properties. The company has disclosed its investment interest at a recent meeting with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi which focused on exploring Indo-China business relations. The Group which is presently aggressive in developing shopping malls and theme parks also plans to build five industrial parks in India. It is reported the company recently has also engaged with real estate developer DLF to pursue its expansion interests.

 

KERALA BUS TERMINAL-CUM SHOPPING COMPLEX

Known as Operation Anantha, the Kerala Public Works Department (PWD) along with the state government aims to set up a bus terminal-cum shopping complex in the capital city. The project which began with the purpose to prevent flooding at Thampanoor and East Fort region underwent a major shift in focus with the recent development. The project involves construction of three bus bays each with a capacity to park 15 buses. In addition, shopkeepers who currently run the business in the area will be rehabilitated to the shopping centre planned above the bus bays.

 

L&T AWARDED FLOATING DOCK CONTRACT

EPC giant Larsen & Toubro has been bagged a contract valued at Rs.468 crore from the Ministry of Defence for the design and construction of a floating dock for the Indian Navy. The floating dock is expected to bolster the Navy’s infrastructure for docking of warships and submarines for repairs and refits. Since the project is in line with the government’s ‘Make in India’ thrust and the complete design and engineering of FDN will be undertaken in-house at L&T’s Warship Design Centre. The floating dock will be capable of docking naval ships and submarines of up to 8000 T displacement with draughts up to 7 m, during day and night.  It is reported the dock will conform to international norms and will incorporate fully automated ballast control system.

 

CHENNAI PROJECT FOR SENIOR CITIZENS

A residential project for senior citizens will be soon developed at Chennai. The Kolkata based Ashiana Housing is executing the project through a joint venture with Escapade Real Estate, a group company of Arihant Foundation of Chennai. The project is being developed on a 20 acre area and will come up as a part of an ongoing 45 acre township project Villa Viviana at Maraimalai Nagar off GST Road. The project will initially involve 280 apartments, with each unit having one to three bedroom houses. The units are priced between Rs.25-Rs.50 lakh.

 

COOPER CORP EXPANDS OFFICE

Satara based engine manufacturer, Cooper Corporation, has expanded into a bigger, state-of-the-art office premises at Nariman House, to cater to the company’s growing needs and business. Spread over 5.9 lakh sq.m with 8.8 thousand sq.m designated for corporate office, Copper Corporation’s new facility has over three floors (G+3) housing all departments with more than 240 workstations and dedicated space for trainings, discussions and conferences. The unit will primarily accommodate the growing workforce, facilitate better work environment and have central administrative facility. The office has been designed by Amol Hatkar from Arcaids Architectural Consultants Pvt Ltd.

 

SURGE IN DEMAND FOR BITUMEN

Bitumen imports have seen a 93 per cent surge through 2014-15 thanks to a sharp pickup in road construction activity as per the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell. It is reported imports of bitumen went up to about 4.5 lakh tonnes in 2014-15 from nearly 2.3 lakh tonnes in the previous fiscal. Meanwhile domestic production of bitumen has remained flat at 47 lakh tonnes per annum for the last two years since it is viewed as  a low value product and most refineries prefer high value products. Now with the government looking to step up work on the roads segment consumption of bitumen, which is the first layer even in concrete roads, will lead to increased demand for the commodity.

 

SHORTAGE OF SAND IN MYSORE

Construction activities in Mysore have been badly hit in the last six months owing to shortage of sand. It is reported supply of sand from Hassan and Mangalore has completely stopped leaving builders, property owners and transporters in the lurch. The shortage has also arisen due to a directive by the local administration stopping lifting of sand from the Cauvery river basin following a Supreme Court directive. In the wake of the crisis, builders had started using m-sand — powder of crushed stones) for construction at higher prices but even those are in short supply.

 

MILESTONE CAPITAL FOR HOUSING PROJECT

Milestone Capital Advisors Ltd has invested Rs.75 crore in a residential project being developed by Landmark Housing Projects Chennai Pvt Ltd. The investment is planned in a structured debt format. The project named as Torrence being developed at Chennai  comprises four towers with 16 floors each and will build around 600 housing units of two and three bedrooms. The project is to be developed on a four acre land parcel in Perungudi, near Old Mahabalipuram Road.

 

CIDC LAUNCHES VENDOR REGISTRATION AND LOGO

The “Certified Vendor” logo and seal for the country’s first construction industry database, www.cidcdatabase.com was recently launched at a function in New Delhi. At the 2ndTaskforce Meeting & Stakeholders’ Consultation for the CIDC Construction Industry Database (CCID) CIDC announced the opening of the vendor registration programme.  This database is being created to save time being spent on pre-qualification of vendors in various categories.  The registration process shall be made open every quarter and will be valid for one year with the provision of renewal every year.

 

HERO REALTY’S NEW PROJECT

Hero Realty, the real estate arm of Hero Corporate Service Ltd, will be soon investing Rs.1,000 crore to develop a housing project in Mohali. The company will develop the project on the land acquired from the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority on a bid of Rs.181 crore. The project involves 1,250 housing units and targets the mid-income sector.

 

WATER SUPPLY PROJECT FOR WEST BENGAL

The 100 Million Gallon Daily (MGD) water supply project, being executed by the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) is expected to be fully completed before October this year. The project worth Rs.450 crore is mainly funded by HIDCO’s resources. The project will mainly address the drinking water concerns of Rajarhat New Town, Salt Lake City, Nabadiganta Industrial Township area in Sector V and South Dum Dum Municipality. While New Town would get the most, Salt Lake would receive 20 per cent of the treated water. Out of the 10.5 km pipeline laying work has been completed for 9.8 km.
