In 2015 we expect a growth of around 20 percent


RAMESH PALAGIRI, MANAGING DIRECTOR & CEO, WIRTGEN INDIA offered CONSTRUCTION OPPORTUNITIES his views of the developments at his company’s latest unit at Bhandgaon Khor near Pune and the prospects in 2015-2016


Give us a brief backgrounder of your company, its products and solutions offered and the industries you cater to?

The Wirtgen group , headquartered in Germany , is the World’s no 1, in the field of mobile Road Construction and Road Rehabilitation equipment. The group of Companies presents itself with its strong core Brands of German origin – Wirtgen, Vogele , Hamm in Wirtgen Group’s road technologies line of business and the renowned Kleemann brand in the Wirtgen Group’s mineral technologies line of business. Wirtgen group has an extensive product portfolio in the line of Road Construction Equipments: Wirtgen range of Milling machines, Slipform pavers, Soil Stabilisers and Recyclers and also Surface miners. Vogele range of Asphalt Pavers both Wheeled and Tracked and special equipments for paving. Hamm range of Compactors Tandem and Soil and Pneumatic Tyred rollers and the Kleemann range of Crushing and Screening plants.


Tell us about the investments made, manufacturing capacities?

Wirtgen India , a 100 per cent subsidiary of Wirtgen group, has commenced its production facility at Bhandgaon near Pune since 2011 .The company's factory in Pune comprises administrative offices and training centre, built to the same standard as Wirtgen's production facilities in Germany. It also includes a blasting system, a paint facility and a spare parts depot and also a highly advance workshop for refurbishment of used equipment. At Wirtgen India, we are looking towards strengthening our market position by increasing our sales and service network and also offering new products to the market. We are also expanding our manufacturing base in India and will start producing the Kleemann range of crushing and screening plants for the Indian market shortly. We have also launched tandem rollers for the Indian market further to our first Indian product, soil compactors, and will soon start producing Vogele pavers for the local market.


How has your company’s performance in 2015 so far been and the growth prospects you expect till 2016?

In 2014 we had a growth of 25 per cent in terms of business. This year we expect a growth of around 20 percent.


Tell us about the company’s agenda for 2015? Can we expect any product additions this year?

We will shortly be launching the Kleemann EVO range of Screens and also 2 classifiers in 2 desk and 3 desk categories – a total of 4 new machines will soon be introduced .


What are the attractive qualities of Pune which led to your company making manufacturing investments in Pune?

Pune is a favourite destination for German companies for investment and business due to its good vendor base, availability of trained manpower. It is also the educational capital of India; has a moderate climate and is in close proximity to the Nava Sheva port and Mumbai city. Pune is also more in the centre of India compared to Chennai and Gurgaon. Pune is the biggest business center for Indo-German trade in India. About one sixth of the total trade between India and Germany is from Pune. There are 197 wholly German-owned companies in the city. There are at least 200 Indo-German joint ventures and another 80 Indian firms in Pune that do business with Germany.
