Solar to be a key economic driver

The Gujarat based solar panel modules manufacturer Navitas Green Solutions Pvt Ltd aims to establish its footprint in the Indian solar sector. VINEET MITTAL, DIRECTOR, NAVITAS GREEN SOLUTIONS PVT LTD offered views of his company’s growth plans.



How do you look upon the evolution of the solar energy sector in India, from an alternative to a mainstream power resource?

Solar power has come a long way from an initial off-grid market of 2-3 MW in 2009 to more than 3000 MW in 2014. The biggest benefit of solar power is its ability to supply power during the peak hours. The sector is today looked upon as a mainstream power resource and in the coming years is expected to address huge power requirements.


What are your products and offerings for the Indian solar sector?

We are offering our high efficient multi-crystalline solar panel series Anora and Navisol ranging from 3 Wp to 315Wp, which will cater to both off-grid and on-grid solar markets. These are one of the most efficient solar panels available commercially in the Indian solar market. Since our launch at the Intersolar 2014, we have received strong inquiries of more than 150 MW cumulatively. We expect to convert a majority of these inquiries into orders once our production commences in April 2015.


Please offer us details of your manufacturing units, plans for expansion and future growth strategies?

We have our solar module manufacturing facility located at Surat, which is near the National Highway 8.  We have started with an initial installed capacity of 70 MW p.a. and we plan to gradually expand the current capacity to 300 MW p.a. in the same premises in next 3 years. We also plan to get into the EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction) given our vast experience of constructing more than 12000 MW of Hydro Projects and innumerable power evacuation substations in India and abroad. In addition, we also plan to provide online solar project designing services to help other EPC companies and system integrators with the technical support. Through our existing and developing dealership networks, we expect to further expand our reach to each and every household in the country. To achieve this target, we are planning to establish warehousing facilities throughout the country with ready-stock for delivery. Furthermore, we also plan to start a compulsory training program for all our dealers and distributors from January 2015. We also have plans to start backward integration of the production facility starting from early 2017. We will also provide ‘plug and play’ kits for different solar applications in the near future. Through all these strategies, we plan to establish ourselves as a respectable and large scale solar solutions provider with a total capacity of more than 300 MW.



Please share with us your plans on launching glass panels for the growing BIPV (building integrated photovoltaic) sector?

We intend to provide BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaic) solutions to cater to the fast growing commercial building façade solarisation in western as well as northern parts of the countrya. Basically, these panels will be mounted on the outer facades of commercial complexes which traditionally use DGU(Double Glaze Unit) or Metal cladding exteriors. We aim to offer an alternative solution to these panels. Naviatas Solar BIPV panels will generate solar power which can be used for internal lighting, air conditioning etc. The product will contribute to subtraction of electricity bills to the complexes and offers good thermal insulation, as BIPV panels absorb most of the sunlight to generate electricity. Our strong presence in the AAC (Aerated Autoclaved Concrete) block manufacturing sector will help us in introducing and publicising our product among the builders. These products can contribute in making the structures more energy efficient, as it reduces the dependency on grid power.
