Interview - Surendra K Malve (Anupam Industries)

We have plans to introduce a bigger crane in the market next year

Anupam Industries Limited manufactures a wide range of cranes for various applications to meet the requirements of core sectors like Steel, Power, Construction, Cement, Shipyard, Fertiliser and Petrochemical, Heavy & General Engineering both in India and abroad. SURENDRA K MALVE, DIRECTOR – TOWER CRANE, ANUPAM INDUSTRIES responded to CONSTRUCTION OPPORTUNITIES queries

With the government emphasising on fast tracking delivery of infrastructure projects how ready are you as a company to meet construction sector requirements?

To meet the huge requirements of the construction sector we are increasing our production. We have increased our production capacity from 5 cranes per month to 10 cranes per month. We are totally geared for the market and that is exemplified by the fact that our products are being used by various types of builders including Billimoria, Supertech, Ajnara etc.

Tell us about the performance of your products through 2013-14 in view of the economic downturn and the fall of the rupee?

There is no doubt that the rupee has fallen very badly but we have managed to survive and are doing business without profit or loss. Our products have managed to hold out in the tough market because they are products of quality which can match those manufactured in Europe.  That is because we are using about 60 per cent imported special steel for all required drives such as gear boxes, motors, operator cabins and all safety devices such as limit switches

Could you talk of any new introductions in the market?

We have not introduced any new product this year but we have plans to introduce a bigger crane in the market next year which will raise capacity from 5-6 Mt to 10 Mt.  This model will have good features which will put it in the league of cranes produced in Europe and China.

What is the emphasis you place on R&D and innovation?

In India there are no players doing R&D on tower cranes. We too are not involved in R& D as we rely on collaborations with European companies such as Alfa S.r.l. and Eng Cranes from Italy.

What is the future outlook?

It is very good. Our aim is to grab the maximum market share across India since we want to export our products to markets across Asia and Europe too.  CE certification is required for crane safety in operation and in structure parts with all important drives. We have obtained CE Certification for tower cranes since that is required for entry into the European market.
