EXCON ‘19......IOT of ECE

The construction sector’s bellwether, EXCON is like an IOT for the earthmoving and construction equipment (ECE) industry.... says Satish Chavan.

EXCON always heralds the next wave, and this time it’s all about IOT, Smart Technologies, and AI. Even better is its focus beyond, on Women, MSMEs, and a Green Footprint. In its 10th Edition, EXCON 2019 promises to be even more exciting than previous editions of South Asia’s biggest trade fair for Earthmoving Construction Equipment (ECE) industry. This time around its holistic focus covers topics which seem to be on the periphery for ECE OEMs. This is clearly reflected not only in the theme of IOT and Smart Technology at this EXCON, but breaking new ground this EXCON onwards is the ‘Women Building India- Equal Opportunity Awards.’

Being in the 10th edition, EXCON is keen to explore the current relationship between Infrastructure as a sector and its inclusion of women in the workspace.

“We hope to initiate this dialogue through special initiatives launched at the EXCON 2019, titled “Women Building India,” says the EXCON 2019 website. One part of the initiative is the Women Building India- Equal Opportunity Awards. The award looks at recognizing companies from the Infrastructure sector who have taken proactive steps to enable women to participate in the workforce.

EXCON  2019 also includes an international focus with a conference on ‘Bridging the infrastructure needs of the SAARC region’ a regional initiative which will underpin all business opportunities for Indian construction and OEM majors doing business in South-East Asia. China may dominate this market but this initiative could be the beginning of breaking China’s hold on this important regional market.

The seminar on Artificial Intelligence will also break new ground on applications of AI technology in the construction sector, especially smart machines which allow to be programmed to individual needs of the user by using AI programming.

Another ground breaking conference will be on Defence and Paramilitary forces. About how ECE OEMs can help them function better and more effectively.

As always there is a B2B meet of CEOs from user industries. Over the years this conference has emerged as an industry platform for fruitful exchange of ideas between manufacturing OEMs and end-users.

EXCON is also an important venue for component manufacturers. This time also it has a seminar on Components. EXCON has gone a long way to foster component manufacturers’ ecology for India’s ECE OEMs.  In previous editions of EXCON TIER II and TIER III suppliers of components have comprised a substantial B2B visitors’ segment, and this year EXCON’s 10th edition will only integrate vendors further with OEMs looking for component suppliers.

EXCON is one of the leading platforms for the construction sector stakeholders to network on a single platform, exchange views, outline vision for future and communicate their opinion on key policy issues to the policy makers in a coheren way. This year we are hoping to witness a greater number of exhibitors, participants and industry veterans to participate as compared to last edition. 2019 edition is anticipated to be a special one as it marks the revival of the Indian CE industry and our preparations are on full swing. PUNEET VIDYARTHI, BRAND LEADER, CASE INDIA

We will be showcasing how it is building a better tomorrow through future technology during Excon 2019. Excon 2019 is a great opportunity for us to engage existing and new customers. We are hopeful that the tradeshow will serve as a turning point for Volvo CE as demand for construction equipment picks up, especially with the India government’s plans to invest US$1.4 trillion in infrastructure over the next five years. DIMITROV KRISHNAN, VICE PRESIDENT & HEAD OF VOLVO CE INDIA

Another conference breaking new ground this EXCON will be the seminar on ‘MSME-Technology and Finance.’ The MSME population in India surpasses the big companies on most fronts, be it manufacturing output, GDP, exports, or employment etc. In the context of ongoing economic recession India’s MSME sector will very likely emerge the growth engine for a faltering economy. So it’s only fitting that EXCON 2019 will be hosting a seminar on the MSME sector, and even better that it is focused on the two most important topics for Indian MSMEs, Finance and technology. This bodes well for MSMEs in India’s ECE sector.

Over Dimensional cargo has always been a major headache for the construction sector, be it over dimensional machinery with massive dimensions such as mining equipment or project logistics, or simply transporting prefabricated structures for big infra EPC projects like dams, bridges, etc. Therefore the seminar on ‘Over dimensional Cargo’ will be of major interest to visitors and exhibitors alike. This seminar is also timely in the sense that the government is currently preparing a draft National Logistics Policy for India’s logistics sector. The seminar will surely discuss the current state of roads, rail, and ports to transport over dimensional cargo.

With confusion reigning in the new GST regime for the construction sector, the seminar on ‘Taxation issues of Construction Equipment Industry’ is very timely.  The seminar will debate on critical issues of taxation impacting the construction equipment manufacturers in India and global ECE OEMs playing in the lucrative Indian market.

With Digital India gathering critical mass it is only natural that the construction industry is not left behind. The seminar titled ‘BIM and Digitalization Summit India 2019’ is very appropriate in this context. This will take India’s construction fraternity to the next level of BIM and applications of digital technology for the construction sector.

But the all important seminar will be ‘Seminar on Green Construction and introduction to Green Factory Rating System.’ The Green Factory Rating System will be a first for India. We already have Green rating systems in India for the construction sector; there are predominantly three rating systems – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), the rating systems from Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA). In addition, there is also the Energy Consumption Building Code (ECBC) and the National Building Code (NBC), which provide guidelines on energy consumption. All buildings in India need to comply with these prescribed guidelines.

So the Green Factory Rating System will complete the Green Rating systems implemented in India. Till now while the manufacturing sector had its own Green Rating system, the Green Factory Rating System will provide its own code for OEMs manufacturing construction equipment in India.

Now the Green Footprint underlines everything in modern society, so EXCON 2019 is only keeping up with this Green trend by hosting a conference on Green Manufacturing and announcing a separate Green Factory Rating System for construction equipment OEMs.

We will be presenting the very recently launched 4 t-rated wheel loader in India during Excon 2019. The new 4 t-rated wheel loader will be a reliable option for heavy-load applications such as material handling, land clearing and general earth moving. During Excon, we will also offer special customized financing packages designed to serve existing customers and attract new customers that aren’t aware of SDLG’s range of reliable construction solutions. Holistic Focus

Among all major competing trade fairs in India for the construction and mining sector, EXCON has always been the most complete trade fair for both sectors. In the past this trade fair has always covered latest topics, issues, and most important always exhibited cutting edge technology in construction and mining machinery.

Last time at EXCON 2017, the trade fair had focused on infrastructure, specifically on next gen infrastructure focused on the key infrastructure projects in the country, present trends and implementation status of the projects, role of construction equipment manufacturing companies for nation building and upcoming new technology. The Theme for the Conference was “Scalable and sustainable infrastructure building in an era of disruptive technology.”

The hallmark of this year’s event EXCON 2019, in its 10th edition will be of breaking new ground in the IT space, smart technologies, and most important the introduction of the all important new award ‘Women Building India- Equal Opportunity Awards’ recognizing the seminal contributions of women entrepreneurs who broke the glass ceiling and ventured where few women would dare to, in the male dominated construction sector. These women at the helm more than fully deserve a separate award for them.

The instituting of a new award for women, and  other ground breaking topics which were never discussed on this forum before -- ranging from taxation to over dimensional cargo to introducing a new green rating system for construction equipment factories -- underline the holistic focus of this year’s EXCON 2019, in its 10th Edition.

EXCON 2019 the iconic trade fair for India’s construction and mining sector will be held from 10th to 14th December, 2019, at the BIEC in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
