LiuGong India, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Guangxi LiuGong, world's Largest Manufacturer of Wheel Loaders participated in the bauma CONEXPO India. LiuGong is celebrating its 60 successful years. In an exclusive interview with CONSTRUCTION OPPORTUNITIES, NISCHAL MEHROTRA, DIRECTOR, SALES AND MARKETING, LIUGONG INDIA PVT. LTD spoke about the expectations from bauma, performance of the company in 2018 and the outlook for 2019.




What are the products launched and displayed at bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2018?


In this edition of bauma we have launched two products. As we are second rankers in the motor grader market, we have launched the 180 HP motor graders. With this we will try to be the leaders in the motor grader market. We have also launched the 4.5 tonne class of wheel loader that has been manufactured in the India plant. Our products can cater to customers from the construction to the mining sector.




How was 2018 as a year been for LiuGong India?


In comparison with our performance in the year 2017 our growth in 2018 has been around 55 per cent. In the motor grader market we are holding the second rank now and in the 5 tonne wheel loader market we leading the market from the last nine years. However in the overall loader market we rank third and maintain a market share of over 20 per cent. This year, we have introduced the full range of excavators. In India the major market is from excavators and backhoe loaders. Hence we have decided the full range of excavators in India. In IMME we had displayed some mining equipment and here we have showcased our entire range of excavators.




What is your strategy for meeting the 2020 BS IV emission norms that will come into play?


Currently, we are working on designing the products that suit the Indian market. The first job is to have a product that compiles with the norms. We are working on that. We are also working on promoting our excavators in a fully fledged way.




Are there any plans by LiuGong India to shift to hybrid fuel?


We are working on the target of year 2020 BS IV emission norms and are working on modifying our engines accordingly. We are geared up with that. The changing norms have forced us to provide the product for the Indian market.




What are the challenges that the CE market is facing currently?


Presently after the IL&FS crisis, there is a fund liquidity crisis as the financers are a bit skeptical about providing a major funding for the clients. Hopefully, in a short time that will be solved. This is as the manufacturers are gearing up for the emission norms and there are no other issues about the machine availability in the market. However the funding from the banks is at a slower pace.




Will the 2019 elections and the target for BS IV norms bring a slowdown in your own targets?


There will be a slow down surely with our targets. When we go with the norms and they need to be implemented by 2020. The cost of the machines will increase. So, before that we will have a good sale. However once the market picks the pace, there is no looking back.




What is your outlook about the market in 2019?


Till date the construction equipment market has been growing at a rate of 20 per cent across all verticals. According to a report by Off Highway research, there will be a slight dip however the growth will continue. We believe in that report and are preparing ourselves on those lines only. In 2018 the market grew about 20 per cent.  This year being an election year, the growth might not be upwards but keeping in view the ongoing projects there might not be negative growth either thereby keeping it constant.




What makes LiuGong India stand out from its competitors?


When we started the business we had faced a lot of challenges and it took almost 8 years to win the complete confidence of the Indian customers. Now we have been manufacturing the equipment at our facilities in India. We are now getting repeat orders from the customers in India.




Tell us about the expectations that you have from bauma CONEXPO INDIA.


LiuGong India is comparatively much stronger in the northern part of India than the rest of the nation. Hence this event is very important for us and even in the last edition of bauma we have done an excellent business and we expect same trend in the coming editions too.
