RDC Concrete (India) Pvt Ltd has emerged as India’s largest non-cement RMC company. In an exclusive interview, ANIL BANCHHOR, MD & CEO, RDC CONCRETE (INDIA) PVT LTD, talks to CONSTRUCTION OPPORTUNITIES, about the trends in the RMC sector, the company’s offerings and outlook for the RMC equipment market in India.

 

 

 

 

 

What is the present growth trend witnessed in the RMC sector? Give us an assessment on the demand-supply gap in the RMC sector in India?

 

RMC market is growing at a rate of 8 per cent YOY in India. In recent quarters, there has been an improvement in cement industry as compared to last year, showing positive signs of improvement in construction market. Of total cement sold in metros, about 70 per cent is used for concrete manufacturing and balance 30 per cent for miscellaneous mortar work, while in Tier-II and Tier-III cities, 50 per cent cement is consumed for concrete and 50 per cent for making brickwork and plaster, etc. With the government giving a boost to infrastructure, there is positivity in the market and results would be soon seen on ground.

 

Today’s key challenge is the traffic restriction in cities with very limited time available to supply concrete in the main consumption centers. RMCMA has also approached concerned department to reduce the restriction time. Paucity of trucks and pumps is another area as many infrastructure projects are in full swing in various parts of India. We are increasing vendor base for these equipment operators and also looking at Lorry own drivers for trucks for improved efficiency.

 

 

 

Is India’s construction sector ready for high-end RMC products having niche applications.

 

With increasing awareness and Architectural development in India high end value added solutions in concrete have got a great welcome in Indian market. The wide range of products like Self compacting concrete , Colour concrete , Fire resistant concrete , corrosion resistant concrete , Water proofing concrete , Crackfree concrete etc. are introduced in market as per the demand. These Products may come with some additional cost but prove to be very cost effective in near future. These Products are made as per the particular specifications and Structural needs and come in a wide range. These products have also enhanced the Structural varieties and applications in India.

 

 

 

Give us a brief background of your company, products offered in the RMC segment and also share with us few details about your manufacturing units – location, capacities and investments?

 

RDC Concrete India Pvt. Ltd. Is the largest independent ready mix concrete company in India. The company was established in 1993 as Unitech Prehab Ltd. Since 2005 RDC Concrete is owned by True North formerly known as India Value Fund Advisors (IVFA), which is having a turnover of Rs. 15500 CR.

 

We Offer a wide range of Concrete Products with strength ranging from 5Mpa to 100 Mpa in addition to which we have our value added solutions such as The self-compacting and self-levelling concrete for dense reinforcement, high strength concrete for hi-rise structures , high early strength concrete for road works and runway projects, temperature control concrete for mass concrete, lightweight concrete to reduce dead load, and to provide sound and thermal insulation for roof slab, permeable concrete for sustainable construction, high density concrete, coloured concrete, stamped concrete, etc.

 

We meet customers to understand their requirements and pain points before offering customized solutions to them. And we create winning situations for our customers, which helps in executing their projects faster with better quality.

 

RDC has a pan-India presence with 39 Concrete batching plants. We have presence at Mohali, Delhi-NCR( 3 plants), Kanpur, Kolkata (3 plants) , Bhubaneshwar (3plants), Hyderabad (6plants), Bangalore (4 Plants), Chennai (3 plants), Coimbatore, Mangalore, Patna, Kerala (5 plants), Mumbai (4 plants), Pune (2 plants), and Ahmadabad (1 plant). We are planning to expand more in the next financial year and will be looking at 50 concrete plants by 2019.

 

 

Tell us of the new products you have introduced or plan to launch in the near future.

 

We have a huge product portfolio and tailor made solutions to cater very specific requirements. RDC is known to offer various business models for long term association with customers. We have recently come up with many concrete solutions such as Corrosion resistant concrete and Fire resistant Concrete. We are now offering crack-free concrete, exclusively developed by RDC’s R&D team for our customers. We are planning to come up with dry and wet concrete bags to address small repair works requirements. They will satisfy need of quality concrete in remote locations and inaccessible construction sites.

 

 

 

Tell us about the USP’s of your products vis-à-vis your competitors.

 

Our vision comes with a tag line – “We promise, We deliver,” which is ingrained in every employee’s psyche, who in turn sells it to customers, thereby acting as Brand Ambassador of the company. RDC Concrete is part of True North Group, supplies RMC to the Indian market, whose vision itself is of delivering quality concrete solutions for customers. We are successful in making all our employees incorporate the company’s vision as part of their existence by conducting DISHA Workshops all over India every year in March. These workshops last 5-6 hours, grooming our employees in all facets. Apart from target setting and motivating them for the new financial year, we have feedback sessions, Quiz Competitions, etc. There is a special session on Success Stories where employees themselves narrate how under most difficult circumstances they stuck to their call of duty and as a team ensured the customer’s requirements were adhered to. The company’s Vision is also reinforced by getting it printed on our delivery challans too. What is your company’s focus on R&D and technological innovations and aftermarket services offered by your company?

 

At RDC Concrete, RMC is produced in fully automated and computerized concrete batching plants at multiple locations across India. We manufacture and supply concrete mixes designed in well-equipped laboratories as per established procedures to comply with various provisions of Indian Standards. Our experienced logistics team works closely with customers to ensure that the concrete of requisite quality is delivered on time and in appropriate quantities. Most of RDC’s plants are Quality Council of India (QCI) certified plants to ensure nothing less than best reaches our customers. We have the experience and ability to design, produce, and deliver a wide range of RMC variants to meet specific requirements. We have a well-equipped R&D lab at Pallava with highly experienced team. We also have an embellished COE at Our Head office in Thane with explanatory working models for all the Value added services. In RDC there are many practices followed after supply to ensure the Quality supplied and Customer satisfaction such as regular visits by Technical team, online customer Feedbacks and Client visits at Plant to Witness Cube Testing etc.

In which sectors do you expect demand for your products in the coming years?

 

Infra sector is developing very fast and lot of work started. However, building segment is bit down at moment due to large inventory in market and also due to implementation of RERA. Many builders were not in readiness for RERA and many States made it compulsory to register every project leading to slow down. However this move will help industry and demand will pick up beginning of next financial year.

 

 

 

Future outlook on the RMC industry and from a company perspective.

 

RMC market is growing at a rate of 8 per cent Y-o-Y in India. Our growth is 51.08 per cent Y-o-Y and way above industry average, we improved our performance in all key parameters.

 

With Improvement in Growth of cement industry and increasing percentage of Cement being using for making concrete it is clearly visible that RMC industry is now a preferred option with increasing demands in construction and Infrastructure sector. It is also expected for RMC industry to grow at rate of 10 per cent Y-o-Y and consuming major part of cement manufactured even in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities with increasing acceptability and knowledge of RMC industry. As a company RDC is planning to increase its Footsteps on PAN India basis with such a positive response from Market and with upcoming plants at new locations. We are planning to have around 50 plants by 2019.
