CASE has always been a technology and future-oriented company

CASE Construction Equipment is built on the principle that simple is better. The company’s equipment is an evolution of fine-tuned products designed to solve real world challenges. In an exclusive interview to CONSTRUCTION OPPORTUNITIES, SANDEEP MATHUR, BRAND LEADER, CASE INDIA, speaks about the mining equipment industry, his company’s offerings, cutting edge technologies and a lot more.

Give a brief overview of the mining equipment industry and the sector challenges.

The pandemic, along with the lockdown are affecting the coal and mining sector immensely.  According to the Indian Infrastructure Mining report, in the short-term, the segment may face capex crunch, supply chain issues, manufacturing and import challenges however, its effect will be subdued in the long term. The market size of the mining equipment industry is expected to be around Rs 219 billion for the year 2024-25 with highest investment likely in dumpers, followed by crushing, pulverizing and sizing equipment. The demand and market size projections for the mining equipment industry is based on the bottom-up approach for the period 2020-25. The government has announced more auctioning of the coal blocks with liberal terms and conditions. All these factors will contribute to the growth of the mining industry in the near future.

What has been the impact of Covid-19 on your business and what are your strategies to overcome these sluggish market conditions and expand market share.

As the second wave has increased rapidly in India over the last few weeks, we are witnessing some minute halts and lags in terms of projects and supply. At the same time, learning from last year’s circumstances we are well prepared this time to deal with sudden disruptions in the market. At CASE India we adapted well to the new normal quickly from the start of the pandemic. We are adhering to the social distancing norms and putting safety of our employees and customers first. We are engaging with them on multiple digital platforms and are also creating new avenues to further this interaction. Our dealers are trained digitally, and we’ve also introduced multiple financial offerings to ease the burden for our customers. All our facilities have been sanitized and work is being carried out while keeping all safety norms in mind. We’re also coming up with financially befitting schemes for our customers to ease their burden and maintain productivity.

Emerging trends in the equipment finance and rentals in mining equipment.

Before the hit of pandemic, the rental market in India was in a nascent stage. The Indian construction equipment rental market is anticipated to register a CAGR of about 5.1% during the forecast period (2020 – 2025). Currently, as the pandemic again set in, securing finance is becoming a challenge so there could be a possible surge in the rental market.  However, at CASE India, through our financial arm CNHi Capital, we are making sure there’s enough capital available for customers who wish to make purchases. We’re hoping that any liquidity crunch is alleviated through their efforts.

Future outlook for the mining industry and from a company perspective.

The government has been persistently working on making India a manufacturing hub for construction equipment industry and has announced several projects to boost the infrastructure sector. In a recent announcement, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has set the target for 2026 and planned to expand around 60,000 km of National Highways (NHs) in the next five years.  There have been multitude of announcements on the highway projects in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal and Assam will further give a much-needed boost to the sector. The government’s vision of committing `1.97 trillion to the manufacturing sector over 5 years will also help the industry immensely.
