Among all global majors entrenched in the Indian market, Caterpillar is ramping its product line across equipment verticals with an eye on equipment demand gradually being unleashed by India’s trillion $ infra EPC project rollout, and opening up of the mining sector where activity will soon pick up as demand for natural resources increases on the back of a buoyant economy. All new products are strategically placed, in segments where maximum demand will be cranked up. An advanced series of two backhoes, which are the workhorse in both mining and infra sectors, the other workhorse wheeled loader will also see substantial demand in both sectors, and with two excavators, Caterpillar have ramped up and are ready for the impending demand.

“Caterpillar has a rich history in India. The first machine we ever sold in this country dates back to the 1930s. Caterpillar is one of the pioneers in setting up manufacturing plants in India. We set up a manufacturing facility in the 1970s. The business verticals where we are present - resource industries, construction industries and energy and transportation, are essentials required for nation building.
Firstly, India is definitely one of the most promising economies globally, and Caterpillar wants to continue to be a part of the nation building effort. We are a company with a diverse product portfolio - bigger than any other company in the industry. This positions us well to offer our customers a large number of products and services.
Secondly, the pace of growth that the country has been experiencing in order to meet the vision of Hon’ble Prime MinisterNarendra Modi requires products which are equipped with advanced technology. Caterpillar’s focus has always been on offering end to end solutions to its customers integrating technology. We want our customers – big and small – to be more successful using our products. We do this by offering technology additions such as machine control and guidance system which have clearly demonstrated greater productivity and increased the efficiency of the customer. One of our key data points show that there will be mass urbanisation over the next five to ten years, when close to 700 million people will actually move to urban areas, and just to facilitate that the government wants to set up 100 Smart cities, which are going to be big part of that change. On the “Make in India” strategy, it’s all about making sure we continue to provide solutions which can accelerate the growth of the nation, and where we can be part of the story of this nation becoming a super power at some point in time.” Vivek Vanmeeganathan, Country Head & MD, Caterpillar India Pvt.
