Our products are competitively-priced, it will be difficult to find better value than them

This is a brand placed competitively in the value-for-money segment, which will have maximum volumes across the entire price spectrum. In an exclusive interview to CONSTRUCTION OPPORTUNITIES, SANU GEORGE, BUSINESS HEAD, SDLG INDIA, highlights smart digital technology in his machines and discusses their pricing strategy for the Indian market.

Tell us about the various products/equipment you will be displaying at Excon 2017. Are you planning to launch any new products?

As always, we want to highlight the durability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, of our machines. We will be displaying four machines, a mix of motor graders and wheel loaders, at the booth. Of these machines, two are possibly new wheel loaders although we cannot confirm that till nearer the show.

Smart technology and innovative features in your machines.

The design of our machines is kept simple, so that they are easy for operators and customers to use. But whatever technology we feature in our machines is to simplify operations for customers. For example, on our G9138 motor grader, the operator exercises precise control through a fully digital instrument panel that includes electronic monitoring. The integrated panel also offers straightforward inspection and maintenance.

Your marketing strategy in a price-sensitive market.

Our products are competitively-priced and it will be difficult to find better value than them. Our philosophy is to manufacture durable, reliable, and cost-effective machines, and provide our customers with easy-to-access dealer support, so that they will keep returning to SDLG.

What is the product positioning of SDLG machines in the Indian market.

Our product lines combine durability and reliability in cost-effective packages. In addition, we have built an extensive dealer network across India that is able to readily provide product knowledge and part support to our customers. This was a strategic decision that we took back in 2010, and we believe that this is what lends us an edge in the market.

Your outlook for the Indian CE market. Which sectors will be the demand drivers?

Motor graders have become one of the fastest-selling equipment categories in India, as contractors look to speed up project schedules and as the government ramps up road building. At the same time, in the last Budget, there was a record amount set aside for the development of infrastructure, so that should mean demand for construction equipment, including both motor graders and excavators, will continue to thrive in the years ahead. Urbanisation of rural areas, increased road connectivity within and between states, and the general development of infrastructure are all key drivers in this sector.

Give us an understanding of your company’s performance this year and your outlook going forward?

Sales of SDLG machines in India this year are projected to surpass last year’s figures, so demand is definitely growing. In the last Budget, there was a record amount set aside for the development of infrastructure, so that should mean demand for construction equipment, including both motor graders and excavators, will continue to thrive in the years ahead. Urbanisation of rural areas, increased road connectivity within and between states and the general development of infrastructure are all key drivers in this sector.

As an exhibitor, what are your expectations at Excon 2017?

We hope to meet as many existing and potential customers as well as journalists, and to get the message out about the durability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of our SDLG machines.
