A Show to be reckoned with

Since its first edition, bauma CONEXPO INDIA has grown from strength to strength and has emerged the most important trade fair for the construction and mining sector.  In an exclusive interview to CONSTRUCTION OPPORTUNITIES, BHUPINDER SINGH, CEO, bC EXPO INDIA, traces its journey from the first edition to the impending fifth edition to be held next year, underlining its growing importance.

How was the last bauma CONEXPO INDIA.

bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2016 was a very successful show and we are more than happy with the results: More than 32,000 participants and 647 exhibitors, (of which 57 percent were international companies), participated in the fourth edition of the bauma CONEXPO INDIA. This is a success story for the HUDA grounds Gurgaon. With the presence of many key players, high quality of visitors from the industry and with strong government presence, bauma CONEXPO INDIA has become a show to be reckoned with.

How has bauma CONEXPO INDIA developed over the years.

Formerly known as bC India, bauma CONEXPO INDIA is now a brand name. The show started with 510 exhibitors and 24,823 visitors in an exhibition space of 87,700 sqm. We were able to increase the numbers to 647 exhibitors and 32,644 participants in an area of 150,000 sqm. New key players of the construction equipment industry recognize the benefits of exhibiting regularly at bauma CONEXPO INDIA. However, the show also attracts new exhibitors such as Larsen and Toubro as well as Komatsu to name a few first time participants. bauma CONEXPO INDIA has brought on board two key industry association namely BAI and ICEMA.

What are your expectations for the next bauma CONEXPO INDIA.

In recent years bauma CONEXPO INDIA has become an important platform for the sector to witness new global technologies and innovations. We are proud to say that bauma CONEXPO INDIA has become the preferred sourcing platform across the construction and infrastructure industry as it provides the opportunity to see the latest products and solutions from all over the world. bauma CONEXPO INDIA will continue to work towards bringing state of the art products, solutions and brands to the show. The current government’s focus on the infrastructure sector, connectivity and urban transportation, will pave the way for the construction equipment sector to flourish and grow. With this background, the next edition is expected to bring together about 750 exhibitors and over 35,000 participants.

In your opinion, how will the local market develop in the medium term.

The Latest union Budget has laid down a lot of emphasis on infrastructure development, and have allocated large funds for it. The budget allocation for railways, roads, and irrigation will drive the construction equipment sector. The sector is expecting a strong double digit growth with an estimation to reach to over 80,000 units by 2020 from its current levels of 52,900 units. This demand will be largely driven by the roads sector, mining and urban infrastructure development. bauma CONEXPO INDIA will definitely be a contributor to this growth story by bringing all stakeholders from the private and government sector under one roof.
