JCB India committed to accelerating construction of Roads and Highways through its range of Road Solutions


Roads and highways continue to drive the infrastructure growth in India giving rise to a healthy demand of construction equipment and solutions. Infrastructure sector is one of the key drivers for the Indian economy. The sector is highly responsible for propelling India’s overall development and has strong emphasis from Government for initiating policies to ensure a world class infrastructure in the country.


Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways and Shipping, recently announced that the government’s target of Rs.25 trillion ($376.53 billion) investment in infrastructure over a period of three years, which will include
Rs.8 trillion ($120.49 billion) for developing 27 industrial clusters and an additional
Rs.5 trillion ($75.30 billion) for road, railway and port connectivity projects.


According to a report by the Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers’ Association (ICEMA), the Indian construction equipment industry is reviving after a gap of four years and is expected to grow to $5 billion by FY2019-20 from current size of $2.8 billion.


Taking the lead, the Earthmoving and Construction Equipment major, JCB India Ltd has geared up by positioning itself as a complete infrastructure equipment partner.




The construction equipment industry witnessed a significant growth of 40 per cent in 2016 as compared to 2015, which indicates towards a positive business sentiment. The industry hit the peak in 2011, but dropped due to the slowdown in the construction sector. However, looking at the growth in 2016, it is expected to witness a decent growth in 2017 as well.

According to Vipin Sondhi, MD & CEO, JCB India, “Roads and Highways continues to be a major driver for infrastructure growth in India and the Government’s focus is evident through the significant outlay it has made towards this sector in successive National Budgets.”

According to the company officials, the Government is focused on improving the pace of project implementation in the infrastructure sector, and thus the demand for construction equipment is expected to pick up.




As the consumers evolve, JCB has witnessed a change in demand. This has led to various additions to the product portfolio, up-gradation as well as inclusion of new technologies.

“We continually work towards improvising our products and solutions. We have introduced JCB Livelink Telematics technology which enables users to remotely monitor machines and improve the productivity of the machines by providing real-time alerts on service, operation and security benefits to the machines owners,” added Sondhi.With Internet of Things (IoT) becoming an important part of daily operations, JCB Livelink has gained immense popularity in the industry.

JCB boasts of five world class facilities in India that manufactures 50 products across eight product lines catering to domestic as well as international markets.

“We have a plant in Ballabgarh, two in Pune and two in Jaipur. Four of these plants, are currently operating at about 85 per cent of their respective capacities. The Jaipur plant has just gone on-steam,” said Sondhi.

JCB recently introduced ‘Premier Line Solutions’ which are specifically designed to give maximum value to the customers through a comprehensive range of customised support packages. These packages offer real time and proactive product support solutions. Products included under this Premier Line Solutions are the JCB 220LC Xtra, JCB 305LC, JCB 370, 455ZX Wheeled Loader and JCB116 Soil Compactor.




JCB in India started with 12 dealership outlets in 1987 and today boasts of 650 dealership outlets across the country. Going ahead, the company aims to add 50 new outlets by the end of 2017.

“We export to over 70 countries, with a major share in middle-east and Africa. We wanted to take ‘Make in India’ across the globe and I am happy to say that ‘Make in India’ is recognized in heavy equipment industry. said Sondhi.

He added, “We have the widest range of excavators, wheeled loaders, mini excavators, backhoe loaders and telehandlers among others. We want to continue to serve our customers in the best way possible with class leading solutions.”




The industry major showcased its range of Made-in-India road construction solutions at a recent event in its state-of-the-art facility in Pune.

Sondhi said, “Our in-house design centre in Pune has been at the forefront of all our innovation programmes which includes the range of machines exhibited and demonstrated at this event. Products manufactured at the Pune facility are sold not only in India, but are also exported to various countries.”

The company demonstrated the performance of its excavators, wheeled loaders, compactors, backhoe loaders and the material handling range of products in road projects. The event marked JCB’s transformation into a full range infrastructure equipment partner, especially when it comes to road construction.

The live demonstration highlighted the utility of the 12 products that were part of this live demonstration. In the large excavator category, JS 205LC (20T tracked excavator), JCB 220LC Xtra (22T tracked excavator) and the JCB 305LC (30T tracked excavator) were shown live in action. Whereas in the compactor range, the recently launched JCB116 (IIT soil compactor), VMT860eco (9T tandem roller) and VMT330 (3.3T mini tandem roller) could be seen live. JCB 455ZX, 5.5T wheeled loader that is primarily used for bulk material loading was also showcased.

The company officials also explained about the utility of GQ100Kva diesel genset and the leading range of attachments like Man Basket, Auger, Rock Breaker, Pallet Fork and Sweeper Collector while they were showcased. Other than these, JCB’s world class ecoXcellence Backhoe Loader – the 3DX Xtra, 3T mini excavator – the JCB 30Plus and the class leading range of material handling solutions which includes the Telehandler and the Skid Steer Loader were also part of the live demonstration.

“We are a one-stop-solution and cater to all needs of our customers. JCB introduced Backhoe Loaders in India 35 years ago; today we have expanded our products range to over 50 models across eight categories. We will continue to upgrade and add more products to our basket in the coming years,” said Sondhi.




Over the years JCB has invested Rs.2,000 crore in India and employs around 5,000 people in its Indian operations. With a network of 60 dealers and 650 outlets, it further employs 6,000 professionally trained people.

The company has strategically set up four warehouses at Pune, Chennai, Faridabad and Kolkata to equip the dealership outlets for parts supplies.

This is not all; the company is also working towards creating employment and entrepreneurship amongst the youth in India through its 15 Operator Training Centres in India.
