Since being named Managing Director, Otis India in March 2012 it has been a very challenging ride for Sebi Joseph.  Under his leadership, the company won the order for providing the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project with elevators and escalators. Having started his career at Otis as a graduate engineering trainee over 25 years ago Joseph has seen a lot of action holding positions of responsibility with Otis globally. After serving as deputy general manager of the elevator major’s Karnataka operations, he went on to become the president and general manager of Otis Philippines from 2003 to 2007. He was later appointed director, marketing, sales and communications for Otis South Asia Pacific and Gulf Area. In 2009, Joseph became general manager, Otis United Arab Emirates, and area director, Otis Gulf Region, in 2011.  During his tenure there, he led the company’s team on the Burj Khalifa project, where Otis was commissioned to provide elevators and escalators to the iconic structure. One of the things that Joseph has carried with him all along is his extreme sensitivity to cultural nuances and his belief in connecting with people with a view to bring positive change. While part of a structured organisation, Joseph has sought to infuse creativity and fluidity into people’s functioning. Joseph is not among those who believe in a work-life balance. In his view, “you cannot compartmentalise work and your personal life, because if you are passionate about something, you will find that both influence and enrich each other.”
