JONAS NILSSON, VICE PRESIDENT AND HEAD OF VOLVO PENTA (INDIA) responded to CONSTRUCTION OPPORTUNITIES queries regarding the company's future plans and strategies.



Briefly tell us about your product offerings and the key features/USPs that have contributed in strengthening and maintaining your stronghold in the market?

We offer 5 to 16 liter engines ranging from 105 kW to 565 kW. These engines are built on Volvo group’s common design concept with optimized fuel efficiency and most competitive total cost of ownership. These engines have common platform across emission stage II, III and IV that helps OEM with ambitions to serve different segments and markets, coupled with our second to none international aftermarket network.



Briefly give us an understanding about your manufacturing units – location, size, production capacity, technologies used etc?

Volvo Penta’s manufacturing facilities are located in Vara, in Sweden, Lingang, in China and Lexington, in the US. Our engines are also produced at the Volvo Group’s facilities including Köping and Skövde in Sweden and Lyon, France. In June, we started to produce industrial engines at the Volvo Group plant in Curitiba, Brazil. The Volvo Group in total is one of the world’s largest producers of diesel engines



As a company what are your specific plans for bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2016 – have you devised any new marketing strategy to push your products?

We are presently supplying products to certain specified segments in India like material handling, construction and the power gen. We will be continuing the focus to strengthen our business in these areas. However, we are open to explore new growth zones as per market requirements. The need for fuel efficient products is on a constant rise due to increasing energy consumption. We see immense scope of business from these areas as Volvo Penta’s offerings are fully fuel efficient. Also, our close customer relations have enabled us to develop and deliver products that can meet respective market dynamics. We are also capable of delivering products to customers who are seeking opportunities outside India.

Bauma Conexpo will leverage identify new prospects and strengthen brand Volvo Penta in various sub- segment of the industry.



Are you looking to launch any new innovative product or new breakthrough technologies at bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2016?

We are initiating local production of our 5 and 8 litre engines from April 2017 which have reduced fuel consumption by as much as 2.5 per cent, compared with previous generation engines; they also offer excellent power density and higher torque at low speed. We are looking for construction equipment business segments in India that require faster duty cycles and commensurate higher uptime. This includes compressors, concrete pumps, and material handling equipment, involving rough terrain, all terrain cranes and all other variants of mobile cranes. Volvo Penta has presence in India through the major players in these segments.



Give us an understanding of your company’s performance this year and your outlook going forward?

We are continuing to deliver on our plans and 2016 will be very good year for Volvo Penta. Now we are well positioned to accelerate our growth in the years to come.

We are very optimistic on the opportunities from India. In this scenario, the market is only expected to look up, wherein the demand for cost efficient products will only rise.

We are fully equipped to meet these market requirements. All these factors today indicate a positive sign of growth for the industry.
