Putzmeister - Project Life

‘Project Life’ – For empowering the future India

With an aim to create a better social, ecological and economical environment for the society’s next generation, Putzmeister showcases the true essence of executing Corporate Social Responsibility.

"When the winds of change blow, there are those that build walls and then there are those that build windmills,’ echoes a Chinese Proverb.

The term ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ is often used interchangeably with corporate responsibility, corporate citizenship, social enterprise, sustainability, sustainable development, triple-bottom line, corporate ethics, and even in some cases corporate governance. Though these terms are different, they all point in the same direction. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) encompasses not only what companies do with their profits, but also on how they make them.

Putzmeister India is sensitive to the needs of the people around, for it believes, “Businesses cannot be successful when the society around them fails.” To execute this CSR Vision, on creating a better social, ecological and economical environment for the people living around ‘Project Life’ came into force.

The intention of support and CSR activity for Putzmeister is beyond giving a financial support, and is based upon total honest involvement. Putzmeister was aware of the fact, that local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO), who were already involved in time-tested projects, desperately needed a breath of Life and Hope from Corporate Houses. Educating children to empower and provide them the right to have a better future were the prime facets sought by Putzmeister. However, identifying the right NGO was not easy, as it involved close analysis upon the years of good work undertaken by respective NGOs, their desire and commitment towards cause etc. The search finally brought Putzmeister to Konkan Development Society, and Bethesda Life Centre, both based in Goa.

Putzmeister together with the Konkan Development Society, headed by Fr. Jose, a young dynamic priest who is highly respected for his remarkable selfless dedicated work, put their heads together to assist the young souls residing in the slums of Zuarinagar, South Goa. The area comprised of mostly immigrant workers and underprivileged children. The need for empowering the helpless future of our country made Putzmeister to initiate a pre-school which would facilitate education including a meal a day supported by the Konkan Development Society. On the 15th of July 2014, the school was inaugurated by Wilfried Theissen, Managing Director, Putzmeister India, as the Chief Guest, accompanied by Beaula Knauf, PR and Media Consultant and HR Manager, David Lourenco, in Zuarinagar. The guests were warmly welcomed by the school children, Fr. Jose and the teachers with flowers, songs and dances. Theissen, handed over a cheque towards funding of this school, consisting of 40 students, inclusive of study materials, school-bags, mid-day meals, uniforms, teachers salary, festival expenses, medical camps, computer, teaching aid and monitoring visits.
The other NGO that drew Putzmeister’s attention was Bethesda Life Centre, a registered Charitable Institution in the state of Goa. Since its inception in November 2002, Bethesda Life Centre has been involved in charitable and social humanitarian activities. The NGO has three homes for children in distress, and children from abused backgrounds. Currently the Centre has 114 children in the age group of 3 to 17 years accommodated in three homes owned by the trust in Santa Cruz village, Tiswadi, Goa. The homes are also registered under the Juvenile Justice Act 2000. The children are provided with food, nutrients, education and medical care.
The other major activity of Bethesda Life Centre is to provide ration and medical supplies on a monthly basis to 50 men and women affected by HIV. They also provide counselling, educational scholarships and other community related programs.

On the 16th of July 2014, PUTZMEISTER delivered to the dire need of Nutrition a steady supply of monthly rations for the orphanage. Bethesda Life Center held a small celebration in honour of Wilfried Theissen and the Putzmeister team consisting of Sarah Burlet, GM (Marketing), Beaula Knauf, PR and Media Consultant and David Lourenco, HR (Manager). After a warm welcome by 104 children, and staff, with some beautiful rendition of songs The Guest of Honour were presented with flowers. Theissen gave a small speech and handed over ration utilities for the next four months to meet the needs of the Centre residents.

With monsoon heading towards Goa, Putzmeister’s thoughts were held back with all these children and women, without any access to protection from these monsoons. Raincoats and umbrellas were just what would be desperately needed by them and hence rainwear was ordered months before by the Putzmeister Marketing team. 104 rainwear were distributed to the children of Bethesda Life Centre and 170 raincoats were also handed over to the students of Putzmeister`s Kindergarten in Zuarinagar. The rewarding happy look on their face brought a huge smile on Team Putzmeister.
