Interview - Sanjay Kumar Das (Bomanite India)

We expect opportunities to further emerge with increased awareness of our products

Bomanite India can lay claim to pioneering the concept of stamped and decorative concrete in India. The company has a manufacturing factory near Mumbai and has set up a franchise model all over India for the installation of its products. With its emphasis on ‘Quality over Quantity’ Bomanite India is aggressively looking to popularise its products with customers across the country.  SANJAY KUMAR DAS, CEO, BOMANITE INDIA shares his insights of the decorative concrete business with VEENA KURUP.

Give us an understanding to the prevalent scenario in the Indian flooring industry? How favourable has the market been for Bomanite India?
The Indian flooring industry has
witnessed a constant evolutionary churn with the latest technologies and innovations. We are seeing immense opportunities emerging from the construction sector, especially with the growing emphasis on the aesthetic appeal of a structure. The flooring sector today can be classified into two categories, viz, the internal and external flooring segments. There is popular demand though for granites and marbles for internal flooring and a rapid increase in demand is witnessed towards polished concretes. Bomanite is a world leader and a pioneer in offering such innovative products globally and has successfully established the same pace in India. Bomanite has a track record of providing quality products to its customers globally, and we have implemented the same operational motto in India.
Bomanite India is the only organized manufacturer offering decorative concrete in India, popularly known as ‘Stamped Concrete’ and 'Sandscape'. These systems has received exceptionally great response for exterior applications. For instance, in the installation of tiles or paver blocks, a common complaint for cracks and breakdown is reported because of high load on exterior floor. However, Bomainte India’s flooring systems prevails as a complete answer for all such concerns.

What gives Bomanite India a competitive edge over its competitors in the market?
Bomanite India more than a product manufacturer prevails as an end-to-end solution provider to its customers. Right from conceptual stage and specification development to a world class installation, our professionals bring unmatched expertise right to the customer’s doorstep with superior Bomanite systems. Bomanite product lines deliver the best possible combination of creative design options for every project. Bomanite Imprint Systems are cast-in-place concrete flooring and paving which add a distinctive architectural touch to any project, together with the durability to stand up to the toughest traffic loads and environmental conditions. Our technical excellence enables us to offer our customers distinct concreting solutions as per the project requirements, aesthetic appeal and in different moulds and colour patterns.
We have a technically rich workforce which is trained under international standards. All our products and installation processes are practised as per Bomanite US standards. As a company Bomanite believes in offering ‘Quality over Quantity’. We provide effective training at all our franchising facilities to ensure highest quality installation and services. This enables us to check three prime elements – raw material utilised, the process of installation and the quality of workmanship. Our qualitative operational strategy and the uniqueness in product and technology have enabled us to successfully establish ourselves as a market leader in the sector.

Can you tell us about the products offered for the Indian market?
For over five decades, Bomanite Imprint Systems have offered homeowners and design professionals a virtually limitless palette of colors, textures, and patterns – at a fraction of the cost of traditional materials. Bomanite Imprint Systems gives you more than 100 patterns and custom tooling options with a wide variety of standard and custom coloring options. Bomacron, a textured version of the original, is a cast-in-place, coloured and imprinted, but provides the added dimension of texture and relief between the joint lines. The product simulates a wide variety of natural materials including slate, granite, limestone, sandstone, wood and cobblestone.
Another revolutionary approach to design with architectural concrete is the Bomanite Toppings Systems.  Comprising Patène Artectura, Micro-Top, Micro-Top XT, Thin-Set, Self-Leveler, HD Mortar, as well as Bomanite Repair Systems and additional toppings and finishes, Bomanite Toppings Systems is capable of turning any stable substrate into a prize-winning work of art at a fraction of the time and cost normally associated with elaborate forming and design work. The Systems can refurbish old, worn out surfaces and turn them into new and exciting expanses of color, pattern and texture. Apart from these innovative solutions, Bomanite also offers its distinct Exposed Aggregate Finishing, Precast Concrete Countertops, and Sustain Custom Polishing Systems.

What are the major demand drivers for your products in India?
Housing and commercial segments can be considered as the major demand drivers for our products. Bomanite India majorly caters to the premium commercial sectors and luxury residential properties. Through our colour hardeners we also cater to the industrial and the manufacturing sectors. We believe that the customer needs to firstly understand the value and suitability of the product. Hence, even the residential or commercial sectors have their own limitations, but the product has already well established itself in the premium and luxury segment. We anticipate the scope of opportunities to further emerge with increasing customer awareness.

With growing emphasis on the ‘Green Mantra’ how do you plan to grow your business?
Bomanite India will be soon launching our internationally established Pervious Concrete Systems. Also known as Ecokrete, it is a unique and effective method used by concrete professionals to address important environmental issues and support sustainable growth initiatives. Apart from this we will be also launching another product called Vertical Systems, a technology combined with lightweight-polymer-modified-mixture to enable workability in vertical surfaces. We are hopeful of making both the product additions by next year.
