Following this commercial breakthrough, the company invested in setting up India’s first Reverse Osmosis membrane manufacturing plant in 1989 near Halol, Gujarat, which produced world-class Reverse Osmosis membranes using cellulose triacetate membrane technology which was replaced with composite polyamide technology. Later in 1997, Ion Exchange commissioned India’s then largest Seawater Reverse Osmosis plant at Gujarat Electricity Board’s Sikka thermal power station. In its pursuit to develop membrane technology for providing alternate sources of water to industries in particular, it pioneered membrane processes and systems using Reverse Osmosis to recycle industrial effluents.
